Mt.Olympos Trek

Enjoy the amazing scenery of the majestic Tahtali Dagi. This is the absolute highlight trek of our area.

SUMMARY
We start walking at Yayla Kuzdere, a small village settled high on the side of Mount Olympos. Trek up zigzags through cedar forests, with marvellous views of the mountain (950m ascent). Picnic lunch is on the Cukuryayla pass (alt. 1950m), in the shadow of giant cedar trees. Here starts the optional climb up to the summit. The pass is covered in snow during winter and spring, so you should have appropriate shoes for this. The descent to the village of Beycik goes through a fairytale forest and offers great views of the coast. At the village teahouse of Beycik we meet the bus.

ABOUT THE NAME
The ancient MT.Olympos was one of over 20 holy mountains in the Hellenistic world. Called in Turkish Tahtalı Dağı; it is believed that the name comes from the Wood Pigeon (Columba palumbus) which lives in large numbers in the area, using the cliffs on the coast for nesting.
The second theory about the Turkish name is of course that the mountain called the timbered.
